Adams Drops Out of Race

Adams Drops

NYC Mayor Eric Adams announced Sunday he would end his reelection campaign.

Context

Eric Adams became New York City's second Black mayor when he took office in January 2022, initially hailed as a potential future leader of the Democratic Party. The former police officer had campaigned on promises to reduce crime and restore the city following the pandemic.

Adams faced federal corruption charges in 2024, becoming the first sitting NYC mayor in modern history to be indicted. Though the Trump Administration later dropped the charges, the scandals severely damaged his political standing.

Adams Withdraws

On Sunday, Adams released a nearly nine-minute video announcing his decision to abandon his reelection bid, just five weeks before Election Day. “Despite all we’ve achieved, I cannot continue my reelection campaign,” Adams said.
