Trump Ties Tylenol to Autism

Announcement

The Trump Administration recommended women limit the use of Tylenol while pregnant, citing a  higher risk of autism.

Context

Autism diagnoses in the US have risen over the past two decades. In 2022, one in 31 American children aged 8 was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, compared to one in 150 children in 2000. The reasons for this increase remain debated, with some researchers pointing to better diagnostic tools and awareness, while others believe environmental factors may play a role alongside genetic causes.

Administration Claims

President Trump announced Monday that pregnant women should limit their use of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, claiming it heightens autism risk when used during pregnancy.
