Government Shutdown Ends After 43 Days

Shutdown Over
President Trump signed a bill to end the longest government shutdown in US history.
Context
On Sunday, eight Senate Democrats broke with their party to advance a funding package in a 60-40 vote, providing just enough support to meet the Senate's 60-vote threshold. The Senate passed the bill on Monday night, and the House approved it 222-209 on Wednesday evening, largely along party lines. Democrats largely opposed the bill because it included only a promise for a Senate vote on healthcare subsidies, not a guarantee of passage or a House vote.
Legislation Signed
On Wednesday night, Trump signed the legislation in the Oval Office, stating that the government would "resume normal operations" and that Republicans sent "a clear message that we will never give in to extortion."
