Lawmakers Question Legality of Caribbean Strike

War Crime?
A bipartisan group of Congress members opened up investigations into an alleged war crime committed by the US in the Caribbean.
Context
The US military began conducting strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific in early September, killing more than 80 people across at least 22 strikes.
A recent Washington Post report alleged that during the first strike on September 2, two people survived an initial missile attack but were killed in a second strike ordered to comply with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's directive to eliminate everyone aboard.
Congressional Investigation
Over the weekend, the House and Senate Armed Services Committees both announced they would conduct an investigation into the alleged second strike and whether similar follow-up strikes occurred during the broader campaign in the Caribbean.
