Robinson Texts Released

Charges Filed
Utah prosecutors charged Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder and announced they would seek the death penalty for the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Context
Tyler Robinson was a 22-year-old student who was arrested on September 11, one day after the shooting at Utah Valley University. According to prosecutors, Robinson's mother recognized her son from news coverage of the shooting, and Tyler later spoke with a family friend who was a retired deputy sheriff and convinced him to turn himself in.
Formal Charges
On Tuesday, Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray charged Robinson with seven felony counts, including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. Gray said he did not take the decision to seek capital punishment lightly and that it was based solely on the evidence and circumstances of the crime.
