Texas Sues Tylenol Makers Over Autism Risk

Texas Sues
Texas filed a lawsuit against companies Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue, alleging they concealed potential links between Tylenol use during pregnancy and autism in children.
Context
Tylenol contains acetaminophen, a widely used pain reliever and fever reducer that has been available over the counter for decades. In September, President Trump and Health Secretary RFK Jr. issued a warning about acetaminophen as a potential cause of autism, bringing national attention to the issue. Johnson & Johnson manufactured and sold Tylenol for years before separating its consumer health division into a new company called Kenvue in 2023. Since the separation, Kenvue has owned and sold Tylenol products.
Lawsuit Filed
In the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Texas state court, Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) claimed that the companies engaged in deceptive marketing by promoting Tylenol as safe for pregnant women.
