Trump Ends Canada Trade Talks

Negotiations Terminated
President Trump announced that the US terminated all trade negotiations with Canada and that he would increase tariffs on Canada by 10%.
Context
The US and Canada have maintained one of the world's largest trading relationships, exchanging over $900B in goods and services annually. For decades, goods flowed tariff-free across the border under various trade agreements. However, Trump imposed tariffs of up to 35% on many Canadian products this year, along with higher levies on specific industries like steel, aluminum, and automobiles. The two countries had been in negotiations for weeks to resolve these trade disputes.
Negotiations Terminated
Trump announced on Thursday night that he was ending all negotiations with Canada. He wrote on Truth Social: "Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED." The announcement came after the province of Ontario aired an advertisement featuring former President Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs.
