Trump Says Ukraine Can Regain Land

New Position
President Trump declared that Ukraine could regain lost territory from Russia, marking a reversal from his previous position that the country would need to give up land for peace.
Context
Trump had previously insisted that Ukraine would have to make territorial concessions to Russia to end the war. After meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last month, Trump had supported the idea of “land swapping” between the two countries. He had also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February, telling him he had “no cards” to play in negotiations with Russia.
Stance Shift
After meeting with Zelensky at the United Nations on Tuesday, Trump posted on social media that Ukraine was “in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.”
