Call for Arrest

President Trump called for the arrest of six Democratic lawmakers after they released a video reminding military personnel that they can refuse illegal orders.

Context

Democrats have raised concerns about several Trump Administration military orders. A federal judge in California ruled that Trump violated federal law by deploying National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to immigration protests. Democrats and some Republicans have also questioned the legal basis for military strikes on boats in Latin America that the administration said were carrying drugs. Members of the military swear an oath to the Constitution but are required to refuse orders that are illegal under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The Video

Six Democratic lawmakers – all veterans of the military or intelligence community – released a video on Tuesday telling active service members that "threats to our Constitution aren't just coming from abroad, but from right here at home."
