
US Revises Ukraine Proposal

Plan Revised
US lawmakers walked back a controversial Ukraine peace plan, contradicting the administration and claiming that it wasn't the real offer.
Context
The US and Ukraine have been negotiating ways to end the war with Russia since Trump took office. Last week, a 28-point draft plan leaked that was drafted with Russia and was highly favorable toward Russia, causing alarm among pro-Ukraine US lawmakers and officials in Ukraine and Europe.
The plan called for Ukraine to surrender territory that it currently controls and would limit the size of Ukraine’s armed forces. Ukrainian officials said they faced pressure from the US to accept the deal before Thanksgiving.
Plan Walkback?
On Saturday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly told senators that the plan was not the US' recommendation or peace plan, and that it only reflected Russia’s demands. Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) said Rubio explained that Russians gave the plan to special envoy Steve Witkoff, who then passed it to Ukraine.
